Even doctors are willing to jump into a brawl with thier fists if provoked. Sometimes NPC's run away at low health so you don't have to kill them, and there is a trait which increases the likely hood of this happening.įor what it's worth, I doubt any of the NPCs are truly innocent, no matter what the game tells you. Several characters, like the Gangsters specialize in this approach. You could also recruit followers and have them do all the violent stuff for you. Sneakier characters like the Thief and Hacker can also bypass security with their skills and equipment, removing the need to beat people up for thier keys and safe combos. You could try playing as the Doctor, who cannot use weapons, but uses a tranquilizer gun and chloroform rag to knock people out non-lethally. In summary, you WILL eventually need to get NPCs out of the way for one reason or another. (although I've found sneaking around using invisibility does the trick too) Rescue missions usually require you to keep the rescuee alive and escort them to the entrance or exit of the level, and their captors WILL be hostile to them.Īnd with Press the buttons missions, the owners of the building won't like you pushing said buttons, so they'll need to be dealt with somehow. If you have no way to pick locks or crack safes, you'll have to get the key and safe combination from an NPC somehow. If you are retrieveing the item from a container, it will invariably be guarded and/or in a restricted area patrolled by guards, possibly behind a locked door and.or in a safe. Retrieve item missions sometimes need you to get the item from an NPC, which can mean buying the item or trading an item for it, if you don't feel like killing them. Neutralize missions usually require you to kill or knock out an NPC, but you can also threaten them to leave, or befriend them somehow (usually with a hypnotizer), and ask them nicewly to leave. The main problem is that pretty much all objectives neccesarily require you to interact with NPCs in some form.
